Want a more comfortable pregnancy? Here is what we taught in our workshops

Hey there! We just wrapped up an incredible weekend of workshops in Baltimore, Virginia, and a childbirth education class here in North Carolina at the MamasteFit training facility (did you know we had an in-person gym??)! Thank you so much for everyone who joined us in-person! This weekend closes out 2025 for our in-person classes, but we are really excited for 2026!

If you want to join us for an in-person workshop in 2026 (and earn 5.5 ICEA credit hours… plus we just applied for nursing credits too!), here is where we will be next:

And if you cannot join us in person, you can still learn with us inside Pelvic Mechanics for the Perinatal Professional Course It is everything we teach at our workshops and more, and you can start right away!

Pregnancy Comfort Matters and Here Is Why

One of the biggest messages in our workshops this weekend was this:
a more comfortable pregnancy is not just a bonus… it is a sign that your body is moving well, your pelvis is balanced, and your muscles are working together instead of fighting each other!

Better comfort usually means better mobility, better pelvic floor balance, and a body that can shift and adapt as pregnancy progresses. And while this absolutely supports an easier labor later on, comfort itself is a meaningful goal too! This whole journey is more than simply making it out alive. You deserve to feel good, capable, and satisfied with your pregnancy and birth experience.

A huge part of this comfort comes from understanding your natural postural tendencies. Everyone has them. They are not bad. But when we sink too deeply into these patterns or cannot move out of them, discomfort can show up quickly… especially during pregnancy.

Here is a video from our pelvic mechanics course that breaks down the impacts of posture on pregnancy!

video preview

The most common pattern we see goes like this:

Most of us load into the right leg. When that happens, the entire pelvis and pelvic floor follow predictable shifts:

  • The right hip tucks under (posteriorly tucks, PPT)
  • The pelvis rotates inward and adducts (IR and ADD)
  • The right anterior pelvic floor and abdominal wall become overactive
  • The left hip rotates forward and opens (ER/ABD/APT)
  • The left posterior pelvic floor tightens to stabilize

And remember… your rib cage ALWAYS responds to your pelvic position, and vice versa. They are a team!

During pregnancy, this can show up as:

On the flip side, some people default toward a lot of external rotation in both legs. When this happens:

  • The pubic arch can narrow
  • The posterior pelvic space decreases
  • Baby may also struggle to engage

This is why addressing mobility and pelvic balance NOW matters so much. Improving how your pelvis moves does not just prepare you for labor. It improves your day-to-day comfort and quality of life!

For those who have more left sided SI joint pain, the issue is often difficulty shifting weight to the left. If your pelvis cannot move into that left IR/ADD/PPT position, it may also impact baby’s ability to rotate out of the pelvis toward the end of labor.

So again… comfort now is worth prioritizing because it sets the groundwork for labor later. When your pelvis moves well, your pelvic floor balances out, and your rib cage supports that movement, everything becomes more efficient.

This is exactly what we teach in our Pelvic Mechanics Courses (online and in person) and what we build into every workout in our prenatal fitness programs. There is so much more to birth prep than deep squats and butterfly pose. And there is so much more to pelvic floor training than squeezing harder with Kegels.

When we support postural balance, rib cage alignment, pelvic floor mobility, and functional strength, comfort increases. Movement improves. Labor mechanics become more efficient.

And the results show up in our clients every single week. Many share that they feel significantly better this pregnancy than previous ones, and the biggest difference is simply following our programming. Our PT partners even tell us that patients who combine PT with our workouts make faster progress and move more freely thanks to how intentionally everything is designed.

Pregnancy comfort matters because YOU matter. And supporting your body now pays off in every stage of your journey.

Ready to learn this for your own pregnancy or for your clients?!

If all of this is clicking for you and you are thinking… Wait, why did no one explain this before?! You are not alone! That is exactly why we teach pelvic mechanics the way we do. When you understand how the body actually moves during pregnancy and birth, everything becomes clearer. Pain makes more sense. Comfort becomes more accessible. And birth prep becomes way more effective.

Whether you want to feel better in your own pregnancy, support smoother labor mechanics, or learn how to help your clients, here are three ways to dive deeper with us:

1. Join us for an in-person workshop in 2026!

Each workshop includes 5.5 ICEA CE hours, and we have already applied for nursing credit hours too!

2. Start learning inside our online Pelvic Mechanics Course!

This course breaks down everything you need to understand: pelvic mobility, rib cage function, postural tendencies, labor mechanics, prenatal comfort strategies, exercises, assessments, and how to apply it all for birth prep.

3. If you are pregnant, join us inside our Prenatal Fitness Programs!

These programs incorporate pelvic mechanics, pelvic floor balance, rib cage mobility, and functional strength into every workout. They are designed to help you feel supported and strong throughout pregnancy while preparing your pelvis and core for birth.

Our prenatal programs include:

These are the same strategies our in-person clients use to reduce pain, improve mobility, and feel more confident heading into labor!

Your body deserves this knowledge. Your comfort deserves support. And whether you join us in a workshop, start the online course, or train with us through pregnancy, I cannot wait to hear what clicks for you!

Stay Strong in Pregnancy and Motherhood!

MamasteFit is one of the only fitness training facilities in the country that exclusively works with in-person prenatal and postnatal fitness clients—and also provides hands-on birth support. Our prenatal and postpartum fitness programs aren’t random “safe” modifications pulled from the internet; they’re designed specifically for this stage of life, tested and refined with our in-person clients, and approved by our in-house pelvic floor physical therapists.

Our prenatal programs were created to keep you strong and pain-free throughout pregnancy with specialty exercises to help you prepare for birth with pelvic opening, pelvic floor, and birth prep movements.

Our postpartum programs were carefully designed with our in-person fitness clients and pelvic floor PTs to ensure there is a smooth transition from rehab and recovery to fitness. Many PTs recommend our programs for both pregnancy and postpartum because of how seamless they integrate with someone's 1-1 PT!
